of the Pennsylvania Dutch. The word distelfink originates from
the goldfinch, that eats the seed of the thistle and uses the
down for their nests. "Thistlefinch" in Pennsylvania
Dutch is "distelfink". Because they take from a thistle
to make a happy home, they are known as the love and happiness
bird.
